Who we are and our goals
Amat/Associazione Marchigiana per le Attività Teatrali was founded in 1976. Amat is the public interest body that, along with local administrations, is aimed at scheduling, planning, promoting and managing the theatrical activities of drama and dance, as well at the education of the audience, in the Italy’s Marche region.
The activity includes seasons, festivals, reviews in the areas of drama and ballet/dance - both classic and contemporary -, youth and school theater, and educational initiatives for theatre’s audience.
Recognized and funded by the MiBAC (Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities) and Administration of Marche Region Amat has as main partners 75 Town Councils of the Marche region, 5 Provincial Administrations, 1 Mountain Community Administration, the Urbino University "Carlo Bo” and the Administration of Marche Region.
Amat is funded on the basis of its documented and executed activities by the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali - Fondo Unico per lo Spettacolo; by the Regione Marche, through Regional Laws, and by associative fees from above-mentioned Public Administrations.
Additional income is generated by contributions and sponsors, from partnerships with the individual theaters for the realization of their own seasons and from regular ticket sales. All of the Amat’s total funding is used for public initiatives – i.e. seasons, programming, festivals- and are invested in the activities carried out by its partners.
As part of a nation-wide project aimed at promoting and disseminating theatrical culture, with particular attention paid to Italian drama, Amat operates in a regional territory with little less than 1.5 million inhabitants where there are almost 100 functioning and well-organized small historical theaters, often situated a short distance from one another. Amat’s role is of primary importance and is often used as a model, even outside Italy, for the quantity and quality of its activities.
